Sherpocalpyse Now

Tonight we are having our annual Chili-Keg-Fest-Halloween-Sherpa's-Birthday Party. It is such a fun time each year where we throw open our garage and have friends and neighbors join us for lots of chili and cornbread eatin' and beer drinkin'. We have apple cider for preggos like me or kids under the age of twelve. This year, my neighbor Pulaski is making meat chili and I am making veggie.

My brother is coming into town today from Richmond; we haven't seen each other in a while so I am stoked to hang with him. He's been taking care of business this past month and his life is on a roll for change. I am excited to be a part of that with him; he's a good kid. He comes bearing the gift of my mom's old sewing machine (and other surprises) which I have been lusting after for years. I am so excited to work with fabric more!

Sherpa turns three years old! He has pretty much filled out in his growth but is still a sweet, hyper puppy love at heart. This is his last birthday as an only child. We think he will be a great big brother. When we told ole Sherp about being pregnant, he shared these thoughts with me:

"Don't worry, I will teach the babe to go to the door when it has to pee or poop."

"I will share my water bowl with the babe and try hard not be jealous when babe breastfeeds."

"Can the baby be black like me? This family needs some more color!"

"Can I get a saddle for the babe to ride around on? Being called "my little pony" is cool."

"Should I call Carl the Rottie for tips on babysitting now or just wait till later?"

"I promise to howl and bark when the baby cries just so in case you guys don't hear her/him."

So, yeah I think he will adjust well to his new role. But, tonight is all about celebrating his birth and his growth as a pup over the past three years! We love you SherpLick Holmes! You keep hope alive.

Welcome and Why

Welcome!

Since Andy won't get this party started, it looks like the control freak in me must begin.

Let's cut right to the point of why we think our life should be public.

1.We are pregnant with our first babe and want a way to share the babe with friends and family.
2. We like breaking stereotypes and challenging others to do the same thing.
3. We like to rant, moan, bitch and complain about various things.
4. Oh, we like to be gracious and thankful sometimes, too.
5. There are some funny links we would like to share.
6. Life is more worthwhile when lived in community, including online community.
7. We really like being married. A lot.
8. I have to one day write a book. It will be called, "How A Quality Social Work Education Has Ruined My Life." A blog is good practice.
9. Pictures are fun to share in a blog.
10. We are always recruiting participants for our future commune.

We welcome your thoughts and questions but do not promise to respond to them. We do promise that this Blog may suck for a while as we learn how to "blog".
